SEIU Local 2015 mobilizes nearly 150 members to join training sessions on voter education for the upcoming election
Lancaster, CA—On October 30th and 31st, members of SEIU Local 2015—the nation’s largest long-term care union representing more than half a million home care and nursing home workers— hosted a Voter Education Party of nearly 150 members to help educate voters and provide crucial information on how to vote, understand ballots, engage with candidates and making a pledge to vote early by November 2nd.
“Our work as caregivers is essential, and we deserve leaders who recognize that,” said Dina Lopez, a Lancaster home care provider. “I’m asking my neighbors to join me in voting for candidates who truly care about our community’s future.”
During each session, participants learned about the voting process and the importance of supporting champions who advocate for care workers and families. Community members received candidate information and signed a pledge to vote early, demonstrating a shared commitment to shaping a future that supports workers’ rights, immigration reform, and economic growth.
“SEIU 2015 members are a collective powerhouse of nearly half a million long-term care workers—and they are mobilizing for pro-care, pro-union candidates,” said SEIU 2015 President Arnulfo De La Cruz. “We must elect leaders who understand that caregivers are the backbone of our communities. SEIU 2015 is committed to democracy, empowering our members, and encouraging our communities to vote for a brighter future.
This event is part of the broader We Decide 2024 initiative, in which SEIU, iAmerica, Mi Familia Vota, Votar Es Poder, SEIU 2015 and SEIU locals across the country are coming together to mobilize voters of color and newly naturalized citizens in key districts. The goal: to make sure every voice is heard in the 2024 election, which will shape the future of our country for years to come.
