On April 15th, LA County Care providers returned to hear the county’s budget plans, hoping to hear about improvements to low wages, healthcare, training, and other critical benefits, instead the county’s budget proposal left behind any mentions to invest in the county’s IHSS program for a quarter of a million LA County care providers, while the county prepares a settlement payout to sex abuse claims for $4 billion dollars. Members and care recipients spoke out, shared their stories and urged the LA County Board of Supervisors to make care a priority and bring a representative from the County CEO’s office to be part of the negotiating process. On April 8th, LA County Care providers gathered at the Board of Supervisors to make their voices heard by sharing stories, announcing the official start of negotiations to demand a stronger contract that supports Quality Wages for Quality Home Care. LA County care providers including Maria Torres and Rosa Andresen, shared personal stories about challenges they face working on a low wage and called on the County Board to invest in care to make care jobs better jobs.
Latest update 3/28/2025 LA County IHSS care providers gathered for their first bargaining session at the County Board of Supervisors for ‘Quality Wages for Quality Home Care’!
On March 28, LA County IHSS care providers attended their first bargaining session with the County Board of Supervisors, and representatives from the LA County IHSS Public Authority to discuss the process for negotiations and commitments made to return back to the LA County Board of Supervisors on April 8th and 15th to discuss their next union contract and share public comments to the investment in care for all LA County care providers. Latest update 3/22/2025 LA County IHSS care providers launches contract campaign for ‘Quality Wages for Quality Home Care’!
On March 22, LA County IHSS care providers along with CAT members (Contract Action Team) officially launched their contract campaign that included over 345 care providers where they participated in trainings designed to equip caregivers with deep understanding of their individual and organizational roles, storytelling skills to engage, inspire and mobilize workers for collective action.
