On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, Fresno-based in-home care providers rallied in downtown Fresno at the Fresno County Board of Supervisors Office. Caregivers were joined by their consumers, along with Fresno Councilmember Luis Chavez, to demand that the BOS address the shortage of caregivers in Fresno County and allow them to earn a livable wage.
Because of low caregiver wages, Fresno County is facing a care crisis. Nearly 1 MILLION authorized hours of care that our seniors and those with disabilities require are going unmet annually due to the lack of caregivers available to provide care. Workers are urging the Fresno County Board of Supervisors to invest in Fresno County and put IHSS workers on a path to earning $20 an hour over the next three years and lifting workers out of poverty.
