Why be a care voter at every level of government?

The future of care, in large part, depends on the decisions of our elected leaders. Because of this, we build and use our political power to elect decision-makers who also make strengthening our care infrastructure a top priority.

With our political power, we’ve improved standards in our local communities and the long-term care industry across the state and country in partnership with our elected care champions.

Local Government

Our local government consists of our city and county officials. Most of our interactions with our local government are with our city councils and county boards of supervisors.

County-level victories:

State Government

California’s state government has three branches: legislative, executive, and judicial.

The state legislative branch is made up of 80 California State Assemblymembers and 40 California State Senators. These elected officials write and pass California’s state laws.

State legislature victories:

The state executive branch is overseen by California’s elected governor, currently Gavin Newsom, and includes other elected officials and appointed cabinet and department secretaries. These officials implement and administer all state operations, including the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

California Governor victories:

Federal Government

The federal government also includes an executive, legislative, and judicial branch.

The federal executive branch includes our elected President and Vice President, currently Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, their advisors, and cabinet secretaries who are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. These officials implement and administer all federal operations, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS).

Presidential victories:

One thing is clear—when elected officials listen to working people, our communities change for the better. We’ll continue advancing justice in our communities as we work to elect pro-caregiver and pro-worker champions up and down the ballot on November 5.
