Caregivers for Kamala

July 24, 2024

The Biden-Harris White House is the most pro-union and pro-care that this country has ever had.

We are so grateful to President Biden for his commitment to working Americans. As SEIU President April Verrett—our former 2015 President—said in a statement released just hours after the President stepped down from the race, “There is no other President in recent US history who has done more for working people. President Biden has given workers fighting for unions—Black, white, brown and beyond— a voice at the White House, used his bully pulpit to challenge CEOs and was the first President to walk a picket line.”

Here at SEIU 2015, we’re grateful that he elevated the work of 2015 members—work too often hidden in the shadows and lacking respect—as critical infrastructure that requires real investment. The Biden-Harris White House executive orders around the care industry are resulting in real, transformative policies.

We’ve accomplished so much under the Biden-Harris administration, including helping us through the COVID pandemic, executive action to lift up care workers, record job and wage growth, debt relief for millions of student borrowers, lower prescription drug prices for seniors and historic legislation to address our climate crisis.

SEIU’s International Executive Board immediately voted to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. This November, working people of all races, backgrounds and occupations will turn out in record numbers to cast their ballots for Vice President Kamala Harris. She is the leader who truly has our back.

Vice President Kamala Harris brings decades of public service fighting for working families. She understands our everyday struggles, from affording groceries to balancing work and family. At the White House, she has listened to workers’ demands by:

  • Standing with workers organizing their unions, including chairing the first-ever White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment;
  • Working to make home care and child care more accessible and affordable;
  • Championing new, safer nursing home staffing standards;
  • Defending our reproductive freedom against existential threats and being the first sitting President or Vice President to visit an abortion clinic;
  • Fighting for a humane and orderly immigration system;
  • Canceling millions in student loan debt for borrowers;
  • Championing women’s rights, pay equity, and civil rights for LGBTQIA people; and
  • Passing historic legislation to address our climate crisis, creating hundreds of thousands of green union jobs.

As President, Harris will:

  • continue to fight to ensure that every worker has the opportunity to join together in unions
  • fight for equal pay for equal work
  • stand up for Black, brown and immigrant women who have been written off and written out of our nation’s racist and sexist labor laws
  • fight to safeguard voting rights
  • defend the Affordable Care Act and protect Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security against extremist legislators and their corporate allies

There is too much at stake in this election. We must protect America against:

  • corporations and greedy CEOs are lavishly rewarded with tax breaks and a separate set of rules, while working people struggle to get ahead
  • more extremist justices on the Supreme Court to take away more of our rights
  • a leader who seeks to punish his political opponents from Day One and while also pushing the extreme racist, sexist and anti-worker agenda clearly outlined in Project 2025.

Together, we’ll work to elect Vice President Harris to be our first woman of color President of the United States.
