SACRAMENTO, CA – SEIU California responded to the party-line vote on the Republican House budget resolution today, which pays for Trump’s billionaire tax cuts by slashing $880 billion from health care and safety net programs that more than 15 million Californians rely upon.
David Huerta, President of SEIU California and SEIU-USWW (United Service Workers West), said:
“We are calling today’s vote exactly what it is: a direct, extremist attack on our health care by a Republican House leadership so beholden to the billionaires around Donald Trump that they would threaten the lives of seniors in nursing homes and children with disabilities.
“We have a clear message for California Republicans who think they can sweep their votes under the rug: calling a directive to slash $880 billion from Medicaid and the safety net anything other than a devastating cut to our healthcare is gaslighting, and we won’t stand for it.
“In every district where health care workers, home caregivers and other vital frontline workers live and work, we will hold Congressmembers accountable for standing with unelected, unaccountable billionaire Elon Musk over the people in your communities. You have a chance to reverse course and stand up to prevent these cuts from becoming a reality. If you don’t, hospital closures, nursing home closures, and long waits at the emergency room will bear your name at election time.”
