Meet the Yolo IHSS Bargaining Committee

October 22, 2024

Yolo In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) workers are getting ready to bargain our next union contract! Through this process, we have the opportunity to:

  • Increase wages and benefits
  • Secure funds for the training and equipment we need to do our jobs
  • Improve our lives and the lives of our recipients.

Meet the Yolo IHSS workers who will represent you at the bargaining table!

Karla Chavez has been an IHSS provider for 9 months and currently provides care for her son.

“I’m committed to raising the voices of Yolo IHSS workers so we can build a great community and achieve our goal of securing a better future.”

Maria Grijalva has been an IHSS provider for 8 years and currently provides care for her son.

“I have experience bargaining union contracts and am committed to fighting for better wages. It’s important that other Yolo IHSS providers join us because there is power in numbers.”

Martha Velazquez has been an IHSS provider for 5 years and provides care for a community member.

“We need competitive wages to help IHSS caregivers stay in the job and make sure our consumers receive the best care.”

Patricia Ornelas has been an IHSS provider for 18 years and currently provides care for her son.

“It’s time we come together to obtain the wages and healthcare we need to give ourselves a better life.”

Steven Payán has been an IHSS provider for 4 years and provides care for a friend with cerebral palsy.

“I grew up in Woodland and will use my skills and resources to make sure our members’ voices are heard. Teamwork makes the dream work, and together we will win a strong contract.”

Your bargaining committee is fiercely committed to doing all we can to secure the strongest contract possible—but we can’t do it without the solidarity of our Yolo County and SEIU 2015 community. With the collective power of more than 3,400 IHSS workers across Yolo, we will build toward a just and equitable Future of Care. Join us!
