Los Angeles — The SEIU 2015 community is proud to congratulate our longtime Political Director Jared Rivera, who was recently appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to serve as the city’s Deputy Mayor of Community Engagement. Jared will work with all of Los Angeles’ diverse communities to tackle the most pressing issues affecting the city, including critical issues he provided leadership on with SEIU 2015 such as housing insecurity, equitable community safety, and economic and environmental justice.
Jared—now with more than 20 years of experience as a community and labor organizer and a political strategist—joined us in 2017 to serve as the first statewide Political Director of SEIU 2015. SEIU 2015’s strength is in its diversity—our members are as diverse as California’s population, and Jared was pivotal in elevating their impact. He worked with member leaders to uplift the voice of long-term care providers, from highlighting SEIU 2015’s highly influential candidate endorsements to amplifying their influence in California politics. Jared helped drive momentum behind wins for a more just labor force as SEIU 2015 members won safer working conditions, higher wages, sick days, healthcare benefits and more through major contract victories. Jared recently mobilized a statewide Care-a-Van tour in support of our members’ “Our Care Counts” bill, culminating in a huge rally and lobby day in the capitol.
