Earlier today, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation declaring May 2023 as “Older Californians Month.” In response to this announcement, SEIU 2015 President Arnulfo De La Cruz issued the following statement:
“SEIU 2015 applauds Governor Gavin Newsom for his proclamation declaring May 2023 as Older Californians Month,” said SEIU Local 2015 President Arnulfo De La Cruz. “As the country’s largest long-term care union and California’s largest labor union representing nearly 450,000 nursing home and home care workers, we know firsthand the importance of providing quality care to older Californians and those with disabilities. However, in order to fully support these individuals and the essential workers who care for them, the state must pass AB 1672, a bill that would empower caregivers to transform California’s In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program statewide and protect the right and freedom for Californians to receive care in the setting of one’s choice. We urge the state legislature to pass this bill and continue working towards a brighter future for California’s older adults.”
