Picket Shift 2: 10:00 AM-1:00 PM PT

WHERE:
West Haven Healthcare Center
1495 W Cameron Ave, West Covina, CA 91790

WHO:
Nursing home workers (members of SEIU 2015); Supporters and allies.

WHAT:
Nursing home workers, members of SEIU Local 2015, will hold a picket at West Haven Healthcare Center to protest low staffing levels, high staff turnover, and unsafe working conditions. The workers are also calling out the employer’s union-busting efforts, including holding captive audience meetings during work hours.

SEIU Local 2015 is the nation’s largest long-term care union and California’s largest labor union representing more than 470,000 nursing home workers and home care providers. Participating SEIU 2015 members will be available on-site for interviews.

WHY:
Nursing home workers are demanding safer staffing standards, fair wages, better health insurance, and contributions to the Union Education Fund which provides education and training to healthcare workers. The employer’s inadequate wage increase proposal and rejection of basic worker benefits has led to alarming turnover rates and unsafe working conditions. Unless these become improved care  jobs, care providers will continue to leave this profession and exacerbate the caregiver shortage. SEIU 2015 members are demanding safer staffing standards and working conditions to ensure that all residents receive the high quality care they deserve.
